Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel has issued a cease and desist order to Ecoshield Pest Solutions Detroit, LLC for alleged consumer protection violations. The company has been instructed to stop engaging in unlawful business practices and to amend its contracts to comply with Michigan laws.

The action was taken after consumers lodged complaints with both the Attorney General's office and the Better Business Bureau. The Department of Attorney General sent a notice of intended action to Ecoshield, which sells pest control services through a door-to-door solicitation model.

One of the key issues highlighted by the Attorney General is that Ecoshield's contracts do not comply with the Michigan Home Solicitation Sales Act (HSSA) and the Michigan Consumer Protection Act (MCPA). Specifically, the contracts allegedly include language that attempts to waive consumers' cancellation rights and fail to provide the required notice of cancellation form.

Attorney General Nessel emphasized the importance of consumer rights, stating, "Consumers have the right to take their time, ask questions, and avoid pressured on-the-spot decisions." She urged consumers to report any deceptive tactics to her office.

Failure to comply with Michigan law could lead to further action by the Attorney General, including a formal investigation or litigation under the MCPA.

The Department of Attorney General's Consumer Protection Team has a library of consumer alerts available online for consumer reference. Consumers are encouraged to file complaints directly with the Consumer Protection Team through various channels provided.

Overall, the cease and desist order serves as a reminder that businesses must adhere to consumer protection laws to ensure fair and transparent transactions.
